MINUTES OF THE WEST SHORE WATER PRODUCERS ASSOICATION

FALL MEETING SEPTEMBER 17, 2003

Waukegan, Illinois

 

 

President Jeff Musinski called the meeting to order, at 2:15 in the meeting room at Hawthorne Suites.

 

President Musinski then welcomed everyone coming to the meeting and those who attended the golf outing this morning at Midlane Golf Course.

 

Treasurer Mike Kosterman gave a financial report of the summer meeting, held in Milwaukee,WI a motion was made to accept and seconded, motion carried.

 

President Musinski entertained a motion to dispense the reading of the minutes of the summer meeting held in Milwaukee WI. There was a motion and seconded, the motion was carried. Jeff further stated the minutes are posted on the WSWPA website.

 

President Musinski noted the winter meeting is scheduled for Thursday November 6, 2003 and will be hosted by the Town of Highwood IL.

 

Vice President Tom Wheathers stated the Association is still accepting applications for the Emmett Sutliff award. He mentioned we have no submissions to date so please get your nomination form submitted to him. The Award will be given out at the winter meeting.

 

President Musinski introduced our first speaker Mr. Dave Smith. Dave is a Vice President of Red Oak Consulting that is division of Malcolm Prinie in their Buffalo, New York office. Dave is also a co-author of the newly released AWWA Book “The Evolving Water Utility”. Dave spoke on the Pathways to Higher Performance, and what utilities need to do when wanting to set goals and objectives.

 

Next, Vice President Wheathers introduced Mr. Larry DeMears of Process Applications Inc., located in Fort Collins CO. Larry spoke on Performance Based Training a Proven Approach.  He mentioned the program that was conducted in Louisiana with several utilities using the same source water. He also noted the before and after results of the program, and how some utilities reacted once the program was completed.

 

President Musinski then introduced Mr. Lou Tessmann, Deputy Chief of the Waukegan Police Department. Deputy Chief Tessmann spoke on Verbal Judo/Cultural Diversity. He mentioned this program normally takes two days to present. In a condensed version of his program his main thrust was to get people (employees) to treat people (customers) with proper communications and treat them, as you would want to be treated, with dignity and respect.

 

President Musinski then adjourned the meeting for dinner.
