MINUTES OF THE WEST SHORE WATER PRODUCERS ASSOICATION

WINTER MEETING NOVEMBER 6,2003

Highwood, IL

 

 

President Jeff Musinski called the meeting to order, at 9:00 A.M., in the meeting room at Bertucci’s Restaurant, and welcomed everyone for coming.

 

President Musinski introduced Mayor John Ceradi of Highwood and he too, welcomed the West Shore Water Producers Association to Highwood, and mentioned of Highwood’s Water Plant improvements, and suggested to everyone to take a tour of the facility today.

 

President Musinski introduced our first speaker Mr. John VanArdsdel of M. E. Simpson. John’s presentation was on Uni-Directional System Flushing and Hydrant Maintenance Training for Firefighters. The presentation pointed out seven steps water utilities should establish when starting a uni-directional and even a regular hydrant-flushing program.

 His presentation noted that in order to get a proper flush, certain velocities through the water mains must be achieved.

 

Our next speaker Mr. John Dalessandro was then introduced. He gave his presentation on Capacity Development Prescreening Worksheet preparation and new regulations relating to Recycle Stream Effluents. Not only did his presentation cover the two topics above he also covered topics for Sanitary Surveys with respect to timing. Chloriform monitoring and the number to be taken based on population served using primary and alternative locations. He also spoke on the new Enforcement Management Rule, which only applies, to Illinois utilities.

 

President Musinski then introduced our last speaker Mr. Harry Harmon an engineer with the firm of Baxter and Woodman. His presentation was on the Water Treatment Improvements at the Highwood Water Plant including the intake pump station and chemical feed systems. His presentation focused on the intake work and the various alternatives they looked at in attempting to keep the project with in budget. The option that was decided on was similar as to how the City of Chicago and Gary, Indiana receives their water from Lake Michigan.

 

 

President Musinski entertained a motion to dispense the reading of the minutes of the fall meeting held in Waukegan, IL. There was a motion and seconded, the motion was carried. Jeff further stated the minutes are posted on the WSWPA website.

 

 

 

Treasurer Mike Kosterman gave a financial report of the fall meeting, held in Waukegan, IL a motion was made to accept and seconded, motion carried.

 

Vice President Tom Wheathers was then called upon the make the Emmitt Sutliff award presentation for 2003. This year’s award was presented to Mrs. Ruth Wiesnewski, Superintendent to the South Milwaukee Water Plant. Ruth came forward and thanked everyone who made it possible for her to be nominated and selected for the award.

 

President Musinski then read the name and the slate of officers for the 2004 year.

There were no further nominations from the floor, nominations were then closed. There was a motion and second to accept the slate of officers as presented and passed.

 

President Musinski thanked everyone who helped through the year and passed the gavel to the incoming president Tom Weathers.

 

The meeting was adjourned for lunch and a tour of the Highwood Treatment Plant following lunch.
