MINUTES OF THE WEST SHORE WATER PRODUCERS ASSOICATION

SPRING MEETING MAY 15, 2003

Hammond, Indiana

 

 

President Jeff Musinski called the meeting to order, at 8:45 AM at the Hammond Marina.

 

President Musinski then welcomed all for attending the meeting.

 

President Musinski introduced our first speaker Mr. Alan Gates. Alan spoke on UV Disinfection for Water Treatment Applications. He noted the technologies that are being achieved with this type of system. 

 

Next, President Musinski introduced Mr. John Wierenga Superintendent of Water Filtration for the City of Grand Rapids Michigan. John spoke on the Practical Modeling for Plant Operations. He indicated how the modeling they did for their plant allowed them to reduce their coagulant dosages.

 

President Musinski, then introduced Mr. John Callan PE of Stanley Consulting. His presentation was on Vulnerability Assessments for Medium Size Water Systems. In his presentation he noted the time frame when medium size utilities are to have their VA’s completed and submitted to EPA. He also noted that once the utility submits the VA to the EPA they have six months to get their Risk Management Plan together and filed.

 

President Musinski then started the business meeting; he entertained a motion to dispense the reading of the minutes of the winter meeting held in Koher, Wisconsin. There was a motion and seconded, the motion was carried.

 

Treasurer Randy Russell gave a financial report of the winter meeting, a motion was made to accept and seconded, motion carried.

 

Vice President Tom Wheathers noted that we are accepting applications for the Emmitt Sutliff Award. The award will be presented at the winter meeting, so get the forms back to him with a nomination. He also mentioned that he would like to see a change to the meeting format, which will be more an emphasis on management, rather than operations.

 

President Musinski mentioned the resignation of Lonnie Lamb from the organization, which moves all current officers up in rank. He then submitted the name of Mike Kosterman to the membership, and asked for any other nominations from the floor for the Treasurer position. Hearing none, called for a voice vote and Mike Kosterman was voted unanimously Treasurer of the Association.

 

President Musisnski then asked for Ruth Weinewski to come forward, President Musinski presented Ruth with a plaque on behalf of the Association as President 

2002-2003.

 

President Musinski then once again thanked all for attending the meeting, and noted that the next meeting will be held in Wisconsin and the site has not been selected.

 

The meeting was adjourned for lunch, and a tour of the Hammonds Water Filtration Plant.
